Hi, I'm Valeria.
My story begins back when I was a kid with a box of gel pens, colored pencils, paint, construction paper, scissors and a burning desire to visually create the way I see the world on paper. And while most kids have some type of arts & crafts projects they enjoy doing when they are younger, they eventually outgrow it.
I knew what I wanted to be when I grow up - an Artist. I owned sketchbooks with drawings of people, animals, objects, and of course, Disney characters. I loved to build and create things so I would always make scrapbooks, and other projects by hand as gifts for people I cared about. But as I got older, I realized there was so much more I wanted to do than just drawing and crafting. I also wanted to create things digitally. I decided to pursue a career in Digital Media Design and designed websites, logos, banners, product decals, etc. for businesses and the companies I was very fortunate to work for.
Now that I have accomplished the digital world goal, I decided it was time to bring back the hand-crafting. I was very fortunate to get started when my sister, Veronica, got engaged. I began by designing her save-the-date invitations, Bachelorette party itinerary invitations, signs, wedding invitations and took her engagement photos. Since I'm Veronica's Maid of Honor, I was helping her pick and choose all the decorations she wanted for all the parties and her wedding day while staying within budget, which was obviously tough. I knew there were less expensive alternatives if we made most of things ourselves so I decided to start practicing.
Gratefully, my boyfriend, Austin, who always pushes me to do what I love, took me to Home Depot and bought my first table saw so that I can learn to build things on my own. We both love the Rustic feel for our home, so together, we built our dining table, patio benches, bonfire seats for our backyard, a teepee for our dog, shelves, rustic mirror border, etc. out of wood.
After much practice of crafting, I was able to build Veronica's Rustic Wedding arbor and put together a garland for it along with a floral bouquet for her small wedding ceremony on Halloween.
I had so much fun designing and building all those projects and would love to continue to share that passion with others who need the help with wedding or other party needs and of course, gifts for themselves or their loved ones. And that is why I started my own small business, RustiCraft :)
